Could Not Obtain Microsoft Outlook Version

The Problem: A user (on Windows 7 64/Outlook 2010 32) experienced a pop-up error message every 10-15 minutes.  The message stated “Could Not Obtain Microsoft Outlook Version”.  That was it.  It didn’t have a heading that pointed to the program that generated the error.  Just the pop-up and an Ok button.

Who Was Responsible: It turns out that Google Calendar Sync was responsible.  I did some research online and a bunch of people had this issue from 2010 – 2012 and then the messages just stopped.

The Solution: You’d think it would be to upgrade Calendar Sync, but it’s not.  Calendar Sync isn’t supported by Google anymore.  The solution is to uninstall Google Calendar Sync and use something else.  That’s right, the solution is to get rid of the product generating the error.  That also explains why no one else has had the problem in a while…  Google stopped supporting Calendar Sync with Office 2010.
